May 6, 2006 - Copper Mine

Saturday morning runners mixing with Miwok 100K racers on Bolinas Ridge. The town of Bolinas bustled with logging industry during the gold rush. Eventually there were six sawmills operating near Bolinas Lagoon and they produced thirteen million board feet of lumber. This was shipped to San Francisco and used mostly for wharves and piers. Beginining in 1848, many roads were built from Olema Valley up Bolinas Ridge to haul logs down to the mills. These old logging roads have mostly overgrown over the past 150 years. Two became fire roads and are still maintained. These are now called McCurdy Trail and Randall Trail. A few others have been maintained by animals and humans as passable trails.
